About Us

Dragonfly Nurseries was founded to meet the growing demand for ecotypic native New England plants and to reflect Meghan Gallagher’s deep commitment to ecological stewardship. As the owner of Wild and Scenic Gardens, Meghan often struggled to source the native species essential to her work restoring and maintaining landscapes. With over 20 years of experience and a passion for protecting Rhode Island’s habitats — especially its coastal ecosystems — she brings a holistic, regenerative approach to horticulture rooted in care for the land and community.

Dragonfly Nurseries partners with regional ecotypic seed providers, enabling us to grow locally native plants in a variety of sizes — supporting biodiversity and resilient landscapes. As a wholesale nursery, we serve landscape professionals and others across New England with high-demand native species. Dragonfly Nurseries grows native perennials, grasses, shrubs, and trees that sustain pollinators and wildlife.

With respect and care for our community and the land, we are guided by sustainable nursery practices. This includes peat free potting soil, recycled plastic pots, and our plants are grown without the use of neonicotinoids.

Ethical Seed Sourcing

Dragonfly Nurseries production of Eco-59 native plants is our commitment to ethically gathered, regionally adapted native seed for ecological restoration in our coastal Northeast community. These plants have co-evolved with local soils, hydrology, climate, and wildlife, giving them the greatest chance of long-term persistence while providing meaningful habitat and climate resilience benefits.

We source native seed and plugs that are adapted to our local ecoregion, to preserve genetic diversity and strengthen plant community resilience. This diversity is critical for helping ecosystems adapt to disturbance, climate variability, and long-term environmental change.

Our partner’s seed is largely produced through carefully managed, small-scale seed increase plots in partnership with local farmers and gardeners. This model supports regional agriculture while maintaining transparency, accountability, and ecological responsibility throughout the seed production process. Other species may be responsibly wild collected from properties with permission and after assessing the species population sustainability in that area.

Dragonfly Nurseries does not purchase or collect seed from threatened or endangered species. Our focus is on abundant, high-performing native “workhorse” species that can be responsibly used in restoration projects without negatively impacting wild populations.

Dragonfly Nurseries’ commitment to growing Eco-59 native plants honors both the land and the communities restoring it, guided by our belief that ethical seed sourcing is the foundation of successful, lasting restoration.
